See What Seattle Homeowners Say about Gutter Installation & Replacement

Between the constant drizzle and those towering Douglas firs dropping debris year-round, Seattle’s climate can be tough on gutters left unprotected. Our locally trained installation professionals have helped thousands of homeowners across the area achieve clog-free gutters—backed by a lifetime transferable warranty. Learn more about LeafFilter.

“After being in our house for almost 35 years, we were seeing and increasing number of gutter leaks from deterioration of the gutter material. This was exacerbated by the ever dropping contributions of our now very large Alaskan Cedar tree near the front porch area, mid- house on the west side and an assortment of other surrounding maple, oak, cherry trees. So we were looking for a gutter replacement and some fashion of protection to minimize the fall out from our beautiful surrounding trees, and the necessity of cleaning out our gutters two or three times every year. Also not getting any younger and losing a lot of my ladder agility, we looked at many options, many which fell quickly from consideration. We made the stipulation that we had to see a real time video of the system working not some cartoon like production that did not show the actual performance of the the separation of the of water, and gutter channeling of the rain water while preventing the deposit of the seed and leaf collection into the gutter. After reading reviews and talking to others also reading about their recommendations, We decided our best option was to use the LeafFilter Gutter and Guard system. Because of the slope of our roof, and previous gutter experience of frequent “edge wash over” we chose to have the 6″ gutter installed. Even though we have had our new LeafFilter System for only a month, our decision has already proved to be a good one, in both gutter size and the LeafFilter System. Weathering some torrential, hard rain we have recently experienced. Once we made our decision, a crew came out within one weeks time and completed our project, removing the old gutters, cleaning and reusing our down spouts that were in good shape, and installing the new LeafFilter gutter and guard System in one day. The crew was very skilled, hard working, polite and considerate at all times to us as homeowners and also to our neighbors. I would give LeafFilter my highest recommendation.”

“We moved into our house a year ago. It has many gutters, some that are three stories off the ground. We noticed that a lot of them were full and overflowing when it rained. We even had a top story downspout fall off during a windstorm. We reached out to Leaf Filter so we wouldn’t have to clean our gutters (or pay to have them cleaned) anymore. We just had them done so we don’t have an opinion on how well they work yet. However, both the guy that came out to give us a quote and the guy that came out to do our gutters were both wonderful. They explained everything and did what they said. Not only did they install the Leaf Fulters but they cleaned out and fixed all of our gutters! So far I would highly recommend this company!”

Seattle’s Climate Challenges

Year-Round Gutter Protection

Spring & Summer

June through September brings Seattle’s heaviest rainfall—afternoon downpours can drop serious volume in under an hour. When gutters can’t handle that flow or debris blocks drainage, water backs up against siding and fascia. We’ve seen overflow damage spike during these months, especially under Douglas firs and Western Red Cedars that shed year-round. A micromesh screen made from surgical-grade stainless steel helps prevent common debris from entering gutters while maintaining proper flow during intense Pacific Northwest storms.

Fall & Winter

October through March is when clogged gutters cause the most expensive damage across the Puget Sound region. That constant drizzle turns trapped debris into a soggy mess that sits for months, and by late winter we’re replacing rotted fascia that could’ve been avoided. The 150-plus rainy days annually mean water needs somewhere to go—when it can’t drain properly, foundation issues and landscape erosion follow. Completely enclosed gutter system protection helps keep water flowing away from your home all season.

Did You Know?

Just a small rainstorm can divert hundreds of gallons of water to your foundation if your gutters are clogged. Seattle receives an average of 38.0 inches of precipitation annually. With this consistent level of rainfall, proper gutter maintenance is essential to help protect your home’s foundation from water damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Look for gutters that sag, leak, or pull away from your roofline. In Seattle’s damp climate, rust and corrosion develop faster due to constant moisture exposure. Moss growth and visible wear are also common signs. Addressing these issues early helps protect your home from water damage to foundations and landscaping.

Aluminum is the best material for gutter installations in Seattle. It’s lightweight, rust-resistant, and durable. With Seattle’s 37+ inches of annual rainfall, aluminum handles the region’s frequent rain and consistently wet conditions effectively. It also resists moss growth better than alternatives. Most aluminum gutters last 20-30 years with minimal maintenance. Copper is another excellent option for homeowners seeking a premium, long-lasting material that can last 50+ years.

Most professional gutter installations are completed in one day. However, the timeline can vary depending on your home’s size and roof pitch complexity. Larger homes or more intricate rooflines may require additional time to ensure proper installation.

LeafFilter uses Sherwin Williams’ Plastilure system to match your existing gutters or complement your home’s exterior. This system offers a variety of color options, allowing your custom gutter system to coordinate with Seattle homes’ diverse architectural styles.

The size of gutters depends on your home’s roof area and local weather. In Seattle, 6-inch gutters are often recommended because they can better handle the Pacific Northwest’s frequent rainfall—averaging 37 inches annually—without overflowing, helping to better protect your home from water damage.

Yes, new gutters need regular maintenance. In Seattle’s rainy climate with over 37 inches of rainfall annually, standard gutters typically require cleaning two to four times per year to remove leaves and debris. Adding gutter protection like LeafFilter eliminates this maintenance—our system is engineered to help prevent common debris from entering gutters, giving you clog-free gutters guaranteed.

Yes, gutters can be installed on steep or complex roofs. Seattle homes feature diverse architectural styles—from steep-pitched Craftsman homes in Ballard to Tudor designs in Queen Anne—and professional installers have the expertise to adapt systems accordingly. Special mounting techniques accommodate various roof pitches and materials common in the Pacific Northwest, ensuring proper drainage even during Seattle’s heavy rainfall seasons.

Gutters help protect your home by directing rainwater away from your foundation, walls, and landscaping. In Seattle, where the area receives over 150 days of rain annually, properly functioning gutters are essential for helping prevent basement flooding, soil erosion, and damage to your home’s exterior.

LeafFilter is backed by a lifetime transferable warranty on gutter installations, providing Seattle homeowners with reliable long-term protection.

Yes, LeafFilter removes and disposes of old gutters as part of our installation process. In Seattle, where homes receive over 37 inches of rain annually, this often involves replacing worn systems damaged by the Pacific Northwest’s persistent moisture. Our locally trained professionals handle the entire removal and disposal, ensuring your new LeafFilter gutters are customized for your home and designed to handle the region’s heavy rainfall.
